He is an Agronomist graduated from the Federal University of Paraíba (1987), Master in Phytopathology from the Federal University of Viçosa, Viçosa-MG (1994) and PhD in Agronomy (Phytopathology) from the Luiz de Queiroz Higher School of Agriculture at the University of São Paulo in 2008 He is a researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation-EMBRAPA since September 1989, having worked at Embrapa Amazonia Ocidental, in Manaus-AM, between 1989 and 1997, with rubber tree diseases, mainly with a study of resistance to rubber tree leaf blight and with epidemiology and control of the red ring of oil palm. Since 1997 he has been a researcher at Embrapa Cotton and has worked mainly on the following subjetcs: resistance of cotton to diseases, control of major cotton diseases, chemical and cultural control, seed pathology, epidemiology and control of gray mold of castor bean and cotton ramulosis, sesame and peanut diseases and sisal diseases. He is currently coordinator of the Ramularia Network, a project that aims to control the ramularia leaf spot, the main cotton leaf disease in Brazil. He was Deputy Head of Research and Development at Embrapa Cotton from 1999 to 2003, Executive Secretary from 2003 to 2010 and current member of the Executive Committee of the Asociación Latinoamericana de Investigación y Desarrollo del Algodón - ALIDA and the Executive Committee of the International Cotton Researchers Association - ICRA. Currently is the General Head of Embrapa Cotton
