BRS EECB IAC Ponta Firme is a Tahiti acid lime (lemon) cultivar that stands out for its high fruit productivity, tolerance to the citrus tristeza virus and absence of the exocortis viroid. It was developed as a healthy and productive variety, but with a smaller tree size, and could be an alternative to the clones IAC-304 (productive, but vigorous) and Quebra-Galho (short sized, but infected by the exocortis viroid), the most used in the state of São Paulo. It shows earlier production entry, higher yield and productive efficiency in relation to the standard cultivar from São Paulo (IAC-5). Studies indicate that it is graft-compatible with the rootstocks Swingle citrumelo, Flying Dragon and common trifoliates, Sunki BRS Tropical mandarin, Rangpur and Volkamerian lemon trees, Indio and San Diego citrandarins and BRS Bravo (citrimoniandarin). It is indicated for the domestic and export fresh fruit market.

BRS EECB IAC Ponta Firme was selected within the scope of the Joint Research and Technology Transfer Unit (UMIPTT) Citrus Belt at the base of the Coopercitrus Credicitrus Foundation (FCC) – former Bebedouro Citriculture Experimental Station (EECB), from genetic material introduced from Embrapa Cassava & Fruits in the 1990s. It is possibly a variation of clones CNPMF-01 or IPEAL-1, acronym referring to the former Instituto de Pesquisa e Experimentação Agropecuária do Leste.

HIGHLIGHTS

- It has high productivity of high quality fruits and greater production in the off season;

- Presents precocity of production entry (from the second year) with high efficiency of fruit production per canopy volume;

- Greater fruit production in irrigated cultivation in the second semester, which is the off-season in Tahiti and with higher prices;

- Absence of citrus tristeza and exocortis symptoms;

- It is indicated, as a fresh fruit, for the domestic and export markets, as well as for juice processing and essential oil extraction.
